Wednesday
Being formed by the word, works, and ways of Jesus is core to our mission at Calvary Chapel. One of the main pathways we provide for this formation is The Gathering on Wednesday nights.
For The Gathering, we host a variety of courses on our campus that target specific areas of life for deep discipleship. These courses meet in seasonal terms, several times a year, and include topics that touch on finances, prayer, marriage, emotional health, biblical studies, and more.
We strive to keep The Gathering accessible for our whole church community, so Kids Church is provided along with Junior High and High School ministries. Please see below for more information on The Gathering and how you can get involved.

Winter 2025 Classes | January 29 – March 19

Discipleship is all about following Jesus. This course will explore the basics of following our Lord through his teachings in The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1–12). During our eight weeks together, we will see how each Beatitude explains our King, his ways, and the culture of his forever kingdom. We will also see that each Beatitude describes the way of being of those who embrace him as King and live under his rule as citizens of his kingdom. Students will come away with practical principles about how to follow Jesus with their whole lives.
-
Jesus said the two greatest commandments are to love God and love others. As Christians, we can become profoundly proficient at loving God and be completely inept at loving others if we do not grow into emotionally mature adults.
In this course, we will explore how being formed in the way of Jesus goes beyond our knowledge of God and our spiritual practices to the depths of our hearts and the seat of our emotions, which significantly impacts our relationship with God, others, and ourselves.
-
Hebrew Tools for Bible Study is designed to deepen your understanding of God through studying the Old Testament. Students will explore the structure of Hebrew words by learning essential grammar and utilizing various resources for word recognition and translation.
The course will include engaging instruction on pronunciation, translation techniques, and collaborative group activities. The aim is to equip students to apply fundamental grammar principles, effectively use translation resources, and develop an appreciation for Hebrew, fostering a deeper love for God’s Word.

Weary of the walk? Feeling powerless to calm life’s chaos? Overwhelmed and overburdened? There is good news: The Holy Spirit is here, and he is our Helper. When Jesus breathes on us, he is inviting us to receive the Holy Spirit (John 20:22). By “inhaling,” we will experience the fresh strength, fulfilling purpose, and vigorous life he offers, for life in the Spirit is fuller, richer, and more exciting than we ever dreamed.
In this highly interactive course, we will learn who the Spirit is and how to apply the practical help he has for us each day. We will use Max Lucado’s Help Is Here: Finding Fresh Strength and Purpose in the Power of the Holy Spirit as our textbook (available at The Chapel Store or on Amazon).

Prayer is one of the greatest privileges given by God to his children. We see even Jesus himself often in prayer during his ministry on earth. And when we look at the Book of Acts, we see that prayer is central to the life of the early church. Paul’s letters are filled with both prayers and encouragements to pray. So why is prayer so often misunderstood and underutilized by God’s people?
In this class, we will seek to grow in our understanding of prayer and its practical application to our lives, the life of the church, and God’s work in the world.

The Book of Acts can be described as a record of the movement of God’s people. More significant than that, it also serves as a record of God’s movement toward, in, and through his people to impact others. And the story continues.
In our time together, we will take a macro perspective of Acts, looking at the mission and witness of the early church. We will also highlight and connect specific core themes, considering them as we move forward in Jesus’ mission as a community.
-
This course will focus on the most dynamic period in the arts: the Renaissance. We will examine the Church, fine arts, and architecture alongside music and Scripture. Additionally, we will observe significant figures within the Church and fine arts and how church music supported Scripture. The Book of Revelation will also be paired with works of art periodically. Once we leave the Renaissance period, we will examine the history of the Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, Realism, Abstract, and Modernist periods, as well as the contemporary world.
Class members will discover exactly how the creative arts were instrumental in changing views about the Church.
-
This class will look at the redemptive narrative of the Bible, taking us from Creation to New Creation in order to help us understand how we live in God’s story and work with God to take that story forward into the world today.
