Wednesday

Being formed by the word, works, and ways of Jesus is core to our mission at Calvary Chapel. One of the main pathways we provide for this formation is The Gathering on Wednesday nights.

For The Gathering, we host a variety of courses on our campus that target specific areas of life for deep discipleship. These courses meet in seasonal terms, several times a year, and include topics that touch on finances, prayer, marriage, emotional health, biblical studies, and more.

We strive to keep The Gathering accessible for our whole church community, so Kids Church is provided along with Junior High and High School ministries. Please see below for more information on The Gathering and how you can get involved.

  • In this course, we will be scanning church history, taking a biographical look at some of the men and women who greatly impacted their world for Christ.

Where our previous church history courses focused mostly on periods and events, such as the Patristic period, the Reformation, and Revivals, this class will take an up close and personal look at the individual lives of some of God’s most fascinating servants. Christian biographies are a great source of inspiration, reminding us that God often does extraordinary things through ordinary people.

  • Delight Your Marriage is a transformative class designed to strengthen marriages by focusing on personal growth rather than trying to fix your spouse. Rooted in biblical truth and practical wisdom, this course offers a proven pathway to lasting change, starting with you.

Men and women will meet in separate groups to create space for honest conversation, accountability, and encouragement within a supportive community. Through guided teaching, daily practical application, and intentional reflection, participants will learn how heart-level transformation leads to healthier communication, deeper connection, and renewed joy in marriage. As you commit to growth and obedience, you’ll discover a powerful truth: when you change, your marriage can change too.

  • Though it is often overlooked, emotional health plays a vital role in how we connect with God and with others. In order to live and serve others well, we must come to understand the theological and practical implications of why God created humans as emotional beings and how we can steward those emotions wisely.

This course will help us understand our emotions as gifts from God and how we can begin the process of maturing them into fullness in Christ. We will identify some common core emotions and provide practical resources to promote emotional maturity.

  • Are you hungry for authentic spirituality? Do you wish the gift of God’s indwelling presence through the Holy Spirit could jump off the pages of Scripture and show up in your actual life? All too often, confusion and unfamiliarity surround the person of the Holy Spirit, leading too many Christians to either sideline or misunderstand who the Spirit is and what the Spirit’s indwelling power means for their spiritual lives.

This highly interactive course is a call to the spiritually hungry to receive afresh the gift of God’s empowering, uniting, transforming presence. Each week, we will review, discuss, ask, and answer questions from chapters in Tyler Staton’s book, The Familiar Stranger, along with intentional time spent praying for one another.

  • The God I Don’t Understand invites participants to explore the Bible as one unified, redemptive story—and to learn how to read difficult passages with wisdom, humility, and hope. Together, we’ll examine how the Old and New Testaments fit together, how to approach challenging texts, and how the life and teachings of Jesus shape our understanding of God’s character.

Over six weeks, we will engage topics that often raise the most questions, including biblical violence, sexual ethics, and the role of women in Scripture. This course is designed for those who desire a deeper understanding, whether you’re new to the Bible, deconstructing, or seeking to rebuild trust in Scripture.

  • By the leading of the Spirit, our church has had longstanding ties to missionaries and mission initiatives around the globe. One way that we seek to extend support to our global partners is through our short-term mission (STM) trips. When done well, these trips are of tremendous encouragement to our global partners, but they also can be an invaluable tool God uses in the lives of STM team members.

In our six weeks together, we will explore the heart behind these short-term trips, discussing some of the practical questions of why, how, where, what, and when. We will also share some of the stories of our global partners and where our STM trips will be headed in 2026.

FAQs

Can I come when class sessions have already started?

Yes! We would love for you to join any time and will always have at least one open course. Please note that some courses will not be available to join once they are underway.

The course I am interested in is full. What can I do?

Unfortunately, we must limit the number of people in each course to best fit the shared content and the classroom size. You can check in with our team at the Kiosk for a waitlist option or register for one of our other courses.

Is there worship?

We have dedicated specific nights and gatherings to a time of worship as a church community, but we do not have a time of corporate worship before or after your class time at The Gathering. However, we encourage you to spend time in the Courtyard before and after class for snacks, coffee, and time together.

Can I bring a guest?

Absolutely! Please let your teacher know in advance if possible so they can prepare to welcome them. If they decide to register for the course, they can visit the Kiosk on Wednesday for help.

What happens during course breaks?

We have at least three, six-week sessions a year, with seasonal breaks for events, development of new courses, a time of refreshment for our teachers, and space for our church family to enjoy their evenings with family and friends. Should there be any planned events or sessions during a break, you will be able to find those details on our church calendar.

Is the cost to attend a course?

Our courses have no cost. There are some courses with a curriculum fee each season. These fees are noted upon registration, and workbooks will be available for purchase from our Kiosk.

Is there live stream or archives available?

As of now, there is no live stream or recordings of any of our classes. If you miss a week, join us again when you are able and talk with your teacher about material you might want.

Do I need to be enrolled in a course to bring my kids?

Yes, our Kids Church team welcomes your 0 to 5th-grade children into their classrooms, so you are able to participate in a course of your own.

How can I switch courses?

If you’d like to move to another course, please let our team know at the Kiosk, and we’ll help make the arrangements for you.
