Our Heart for and History with Ukraine
Ukraine is an Eastern European nation roughly twice the size of California. It is located west of Russia, north of the Black Sea, east of Poland and Hungary, and south of Belarus. In recent history, its population has been around 50 million.
Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa has a long history of ministry in Ukraine. Beginning in 1992, the church has sent and supported missionaries, planted churches, translated resources into Ukrainian, supported national and local conferences, conducted schools of ministry, sent mission teams, and more. Over time, we have also sought to encourage and be a blessing to the national leaders and churches that God has raised up in the country.
Ukraine’s recent history has been deeply painful. In 2014, Russia illegally seized and occupied Crimea and large portions of the Donbas region in southeastern Ukraine. Then, on February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion with the goal of occupying and subjugating the nation. Ukraine resisted the initial assault with surprising effectiveness, but has now endured four years of a devastating war that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and destroyed large areas of the country.
Despite these severe trials, the Lord continues his faithful work in Ukraine through his people. He is sustaining, blessing, and using them even in the fiercest hardships. Through the lives of his children—many of whom have suffered profound loss and hardship—God is saving the lost, comforting the hurting, giving hope to the hopeless, and meeting practical needs day by day.
May the Lord help us to remember them and pray with them:
For a speedy, just, and enduring end to the war with Russia.
For heat, electricity, and basic needs in the midst of this very cold winter.
For the Lord’s grace, mercy, and truth to be poured over the country of Ukraine.
“Thank you so much for standing with us in prayer. Your faithful intercession truly matters. Please continue to pray for the Calvary Chapel Ukraine movement of churches.”

We encourage you to watch and pray along with Pastor John Chubik during this moment on his most recent trip to Ternopil.
How You Can Help
February 24, 2026, marks four years since Russia began its war against Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed or wounded, and millions are now refugees. With decades of ministry in both countries, our hearts break for the suffering and death on both sides.
With your generosity, hundreds of thousands have been donated over these past four years. Through your partnership, we’ve had the privilege of providing toward:
Evacuation assistance
Refugee aid
Chaplaincy ministries
Gatherings, conferences, trauma-care groups, and youth camps
Christmas gifts for families
Medical support and medicine
Generators and other essential supplies
In the midst of this tragedy, God is at work bringing hope and relieving suffering.
As the war goes on, we continue to support the evolving needs of our brothers and sisters. Here are three other ways you can partner with us:
Connect to what is going on with the Calvary Chapel churches across Ukraine. Visit the different church pages for ongoing updates and prayer points.
Pray personally or communally. We have Missions prayer meetings on Sundays at 4:30 PM and on Tuesdays at noon. Both meetings are in the Family Room.
Encourage those ministering through the war in Ukraine, Georgia, and Hungary. They would love to receive a short, encouraging message from you. Visit their missionary pages!
