About Local Mission

Our church vision statement is that we are A Jesus Formed Community on Mission, and we do that locally by bringing tangible hope through practical help and relational love.

Vision

As a ministry, we seek to make much of Jesus by equipping the saints to meet the practical and spiritual needs of the cities of Costa Mesa and Santa Ana. It is a kingdom work that seeks to establish relational and practical gateways into different areas of justice and mercy to engage and contribute to the flourishing and health of our city (Jeremiah 29:7). We want to demonstrate God’s generous and compassionate heart (Lamentations 3:22; Romans 5:6–7) by meeting people’s spiritual and practical needs (James 2:14–16), seeking restoration, and bearing one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:1–2), advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves (Proverbs 31:8–9), first in the church (Acts 4:34–35; Galatians 6:9–10), then for our neighbors (Luke 10:27–37), for the glory of God (Matthew 5:16).

Philosophy

We partner strategically to serve intentionally and love relationally.

Strategically

We are looking to hear the needs of our city and community and partner in a way that honors those needs and the mission God has given us to make disciples. We are married to the mission of reaching the lost, not the method.

Intentionally

We look to serve those around us by following through on our commitments; we embody a consistent, patient, and reliable church. We intentionally build bridges and relationships to further the kingdom over time and with trust.

Relationally

We live on mission. We are relationally available and able to allow others into our lives, homes, and communities. We are willing to be a part of the long haul. We allow Jesus to cultivate the witness that we have in how we live our lives and love those around us. We proclaim the gospel in word and deed and with vulnerability.

Local Initiatives

  • School Adoption Team

We come alongside Adams Elementary to support the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of students, their families, and school staff.

It is an avenue to be Jesus’ hands and feet, to be a part of practically uplifting the community and to feed into the next generation. It is a relationship that relies heavily on consistency and listening. We are not there to implement what we want, but to listen to what the needs of the school are.

    As a team we:

    -  Meet tangible needs as they arise, especially with our underserved or homeless youth.

    - Volunteer to support school events and fundraisers throughout the year.

    - Attend PTA meetings.

    - Attend CAFE’s (Community and family engagement), in partnership with Trellis, to help tackle the school’s biggest challenges as a collective group of school leadership, local business and churches.

  • Homeless Youth Team

We come alongside Project Hope Alliance, a nonprofit in OC, to support the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of students, their families, and PHA staff/case managers.

It is an avenue to be Jesus’ hands and feet and help break cycles of youth homelessness and the challenges that the youth in our city face. It is a relationship that relies heavily on consistency and listening. We are not there to implement what we want, but to listen to what the needs of the students are.

    As a team we:

    -  Relationally and practically support the case managers at Estancia High School.

    - Help meet the immediate needs of the students by sourcing the product(s) that are lacking, like shoes, clothing, school supplies, food, etc.

    - Keep the resource room stocked as things diminish.

    - Help to maintain the cleanliness and over all “vibe” of the room at Estancia.

    - Support Seasonal Events that PHA hosts, such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive and Bag Assembly and Christmas Toy Wrapping for Families.

     - Help out at the PHA Warehouse through organizing days and taking shifts for food distribution.

  • Refugee Team

We come alongside Voice of the Refugees (VOR), a nonprofit in OC that is dedicated to assisting refugee and asylum families that have come from conflict ridden countries.

It is an avenue to be Jesus’ hands and feet, to come alongside and build relationships with those who are image bearers of God that are particularly vulnerable. The people we get to serve have fled their countries due to war, persecution, poverty, violence, and famine and are now refugees, foreigners, widows, and orphans. These are people whom God, in his Word, has told us to love as well as help meet their physical needs. Through our partnership with VOR, we have the opportunity to share the love of God with people of many different cultures, languages, and religious backgrounds.

    As a team we:

    - Support seasonal events:

Women’s Day, Freedom of Religion Trainings, Young Adult Events, Kids Summer Camp, Back to School Events, Thanksgiving Dinner Party, Christmas Concert, and Christmas Party

    - Relationally and practically support the many refugees by volunteering with:

Weekly food distribution, teaching ESL (English as second language), mentoring and American cultural assimilation, welcoming refugees when they first arrive, and helping with different transportation needs

Updates on What God Is Doing

  • Sponsor a Senior Initiative

In August of 2024, we were able to raise a little over $4,000 dollars to sponsor four seniors experiencing homelessness from Estancia High School. We wanted to make a way for these kids to experience all that their senior year has to offer and not feel like they had to sit out of all the fun activities and remind them that they are worthy of making these memories, no matter their circumstances.

    Update 11/13/24

    - They all received their senior sweatshirts.

    - Three of them went to their homecoming dance.

    - Luke, who is interested in construction, is doing really well, has lots going for him, and is in extracurricular actives and classes for multimedia and construction.

    - Vanessa is loving her art supplies that were gifted to her from someone in our congregation.

    - Leo, who wants to go into psychology, is doing really well and wants to also look into computer sciences.

    - Kirya, their case manager, started doing workshops during their homeroom period to help them do college applications and prep for life after graduation.

  • Two girls from Estancia come to Summer Camp

In June of 2024, we had the honor and privilege of bringing two 10th-grade girls from Estancia High School to our church’s high school ministry summer camp. Although much of the ministry we do week in week out is meeting practical needs, every now and then we get the sweet opportunity to connect personally with the students and love on them. Both of these girls responded to Jesus for the first time on this trip, and we keep up with them when they come to youth group from time to time.

  • Adams Elementary CAFÉ

We had our first ever Community and Family Engagement meeting where our church’s Community Engagement Lead, Bianka Mathus, was made the school champion! This role is so special because she gets to be the liaison between the community in Costa Mesa who want to support Adams and be the lead in getting projects done for the school. Please pray for the idea of starting up an after-school program for the students and the continued flourishing relationship between our church and the school.
