Baptism into the Family of Jesus Looks Like …

What Is Baptism?

Baptism is essentially about finding and declaring our new identity in Jesus Christ as sons and daughters of God.

The act of baptism—being plunged under the waters and being brought back out—is a picture of us dying to our old life (who and what we identify with, our values, where we find our worth, etc.) and being raised to new life (identifying as a son or daughter of God, beloved by him, living as a disciple of Jesus, living in freedom, living in God’s love, and sharing God’s love, practicing a life of mercy and justice).

In baptism, we are saying, “I am a whole new person because of what Jesus did for me by dying for my sins and being raised again so I can be declared forgiven, righteous, and holy—a member of God’s family—and now I belong to Jesus, body and soul.”

Who Is Baptism For?

Baptism is for anyone who gives their trust (faith and allegiance) to Jesus Christ. Baptism is a powerful, renewing, and recalibrating moment in someone’s life. It’s like a birthday. It’s a day to mark and return to again and again, so it is essential that you remember your baptism.

Maybe you were baptized as an infant or child. We aren’t saying that your baptism wasn’t real, but we are saying that your baptism is meant to be personal, based on a decision you have made to give yourself to Jesus. Can you say that about your baptism? If not, we would encourage you to be baptized so that you may regularly remember the day you said, “I belong to Jesus.” This moment is so important to our journey as disciples of Jesus so that no matter what happens—how we might fail and falter—we can return to that day and moment where we declared that we belong to Jesus, and he will never let us go. He will never leave us or forsake us. That is his promise.

Have You Decided to Be Baptized?

We are excited to celebrate this decision and walk with you through it. Please let us know so we can get in touch.
